The sister science of yoga, Ayurveda, is understood by the five elements found in the universe – Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. The elements are understood by the energies found in our environments known as the gunas - hot and cold, wet and dry, heavy and light, and mobile and stable.
In Ayurveda, the body is made up of three basic energies known as the doshas - Vata, Pitta and Kapha which govern our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual constitutions. Ayurveda believes in three seasons defined by the doshas - Vata-fall and early winter; Kapha- winter and early spring; and Pitta- late spring and summer.
Ayurveda suggests specific dietary guidelines, routines and self-care rituals to complement each season. Yoga is one way in which Ayurveda supports seasonal changes. In this class, learn about the current season and its influence on the mind, body spirit and emotions as RYT-200 and Ayurveda Yoga Specialist Laura Scoville guides students through a practice designed to align and balance in accordance to nature.
