New to yoga? here's what to expect.
ATTIRE: We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and prepare to practice with shoes off.
FOOD AND DRINK: Yoga feels best when practiced on an empty stomach. No food or beverages are permitted in the studio except water. Please do not bring water in glass containers - we practice in our bare feet!
INJURIES AND HEALTH CONCERNS: It is the responsibility of each student to discuss with instructors any/all existing or recent medical conditions or injuries. Our instructors will then be able to better offer postures that should be modified or eliminated from your practice. All information is kept confidential.
ARRIVE EARLY: Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before class. If it's your first time to the studio, please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to class to fill out necessary paper work and become acclimated.
SILENCE YOUR CELL: Please keep cell phones in the lobby area.
CLASS SUPPLIES: LPS provides yoga mats, blocks, straps, bolsters, pillows and blankets for all students. Should you use the studio mats or blocks, please clean them after class with provided cleaning products.
KEEP YOUR BELONGINGS SAFE: We are not responsible for lost or broken items. Place valuables in your bag or leave them in your car.
STAY UNTIL THE END: At the end of each class, we practice Svasana, the most important pose in all of yoga, for two to 10 minutes. It is in Svasana that the body, mind and soul fully absorbs the many benefits of the practice. If you roll up your mat and run out the door during this time, you risk neglecting yourself of complete and total relaxation, and your nervous system may suffer! Plus, it is very distracting to your fellow students.
ASK QUESTIONS: Want to know the name of a pose you liked during class? The title of a song played on an instructor's playlist? Modifications of a posture to better suit your body? What Namaste or Ardha Baddha Padma Paschimottanasana (say what!!?) means? Ask us! Our LPS instructors are more than happy to answer!
BE HONEST ON PAPER: Your waiver is vital to your safety and the studio's. Also, please update emergency contact information as necessary. Again, all information is kept confidential.
HAVE FUN AND SMILE: Yoga has the potential to both calm and strengthen an agitated, restless mind and a tense, weak, aching body while also soothing the soul and spirit. None of this can happen if we take ourselves too seriously. Thus, have fun with yourself, respect your limitations, honor where you are at any given moment (this may change from day to day), and smile! Be grateful that you were able to show up and practice.
